UM House announces its new host couple

Jan and Mike Yauch of Houston, Texas, will be the new host couple at United Methodist House, starting with the summer season of 2022. They will follow Bob and Karen Douds, who are serving their final summer in 2021, winding up twelve years in the hosts’ role.

“Mike and Jan have spent numerous summers in the Chautauqua area,” says UM House president Brenda Baird in announcing the appointment. “They are affiliate members of the Hurlbut UMC Church on the Chautauqua Institution grounds.”

Applications invited for the role of chaplain

UM House invites applications for a summer chaplaincy in 2022 and later seasons — a one-week position that carries certain duties and brings with it the opportunity to spend a week at Chautauqua and stay in a room at the historic and comfortable United Methodist House.

“Hospitality is our primary ministry,” says Beth Nelson, chair of the chaplaincy committee, noting that the application form for would-be chaplains asks, “What does hospitality mean to you?” Details of the chaplain’s role and a copy of the one-page application form are available on request from her at bethlnelson1@gmail.com.
